Why would a contact I think is valid get flagged by the Allegrow Safety Net?

First of all, each contact we flag as being invalid will get returned to you with a status code. A full list of the status codes is available here. This list will help you understand the specific risks of your contact, why they’re invalid, and what the next best step is to fix this.

You may see Allegrow flag some emails as invalid that you would expect to be verified. If you ever think we’ve made a mistake, please report it to us in live chat (and show the data you have that suggests the contact is valid, so we can troubleshoot).

The main reasons a contact you expect to be valid might actually not be verified are the following:

1) The email is simply wrong.

Meaning, even though the person you're targeting is still at the company, your data provider has picked the wrong naming format to reach that primary email address. For example, rbaker@allegrow.co is not the email format for our CEO, Ruari Baker. (You can always try different naming formats in the instant email verifier live, like First.lastname@company.com, etc.

2) The contact left their job. (without updating LinkedIn).

Many people will leave their jobs and not update LinkedIn for a long period of time. Especially if they’re looking for a new job or simply don’t keep their LinkedIn profile up to date. Allegrow is still able to verify if an email at a large business is valid even when LinkedIn is outdated.

3)The email address isn’t primary.

Meaning, even though you technically could deliver a message to this email, it’s not the email your target prospect monitors each day. Again, you can try different email formats or contacts in Allegrow real-time to ensure you’re targeting the most likely to respond contact, avoiding spam traps and ensuring you don’t target an account that rarely gets checked.

4) The address has a very high spam risk (like an alias email, for example).

Meaning, even though this mailbox passes some basic verification tests, sending an outbound email to it without high inbound intent will hurt your overall prospecting, for reasons like (it has a high risk of being a spam trap, or it may redirect to a different person than the one you expect, leading to spam reports).

When you’re targeting large companies, it’s important to note that invalid emails don’t often produce bounces. As large businesses have security settings to stop bounce-backs being sent to unknown recipients, they use both secure email gateways and catch-all servers.
